My Teaching Philosophy
For me, teaching is a profession that can stimulate us to be more creative and build new ideas to make our students can understand the lesson, especially for me who wants to be an English teacher. If I talk about previous experience in Junior High School or Senior High School, all we know that school was not always pleasant, classes were boring, the teacher simply did chalk and talk and corporal punishment was still acceptable.
From that experience, when I have Teaching practice at the end of my bachelor degree. This teaching practice was required for students who want to finish their degree. The teaching practice conducted in 3 months in a Junior High School in my city, Medan-Indonesia. So, I start to apply a teaching and learning process that was fun but my students still can focus and understood the lesson I have explained.
I have a mission as a teacher to create a learning environment that is safe, fun, positive, inviting students’ ideas and collaborative where students are welcomed at the door with a smile and teaching encourages classroom discussion and students’ interaction. As we live in a modern era, technology is embraced and integrated into the learning environment to make students more interested in the teaching and learning process.
Back in the day, rewards will be used to motivate students even this effect was temporary and not every student received rewards. I believe that students should want to learn for the sake of learning and be self-motivated by their curiosity. Students should be taught with types of learners in mind and not focused on just a certain learning style.
That's my goal as a teacher in my future.
